I have taken the opportunity to take this new tv off the shelf and play with it.  Upon first power up, you are greeted with a simple first installation screen which scans for digital tv channels and stores them in the right order.  If you ever want to use this function again, for instance if you move location, you can do so by pressing just one button on the remote control (AQT), making it easy to retune when you move location (Transmitter).  I can report the viewing angles are fantastic looking from the side, as is expected with most tv's, the viewing angle from top and bottom is not as wide as side to side, but more than needed for most applications and very acceptable, just as you would expect from a Sony panel.  The picture quality is superb, the contrast and sharpness a reflection of this high end panel.  The sound quality is clear and does not distort at high volumes.  It has 2x HDMI inputs, a composite input, RF aerial input, scart, pcmcia slot, vga (to use it as a computer monitor). Changing source is easily done either on the tv itself or via the remote.  The tv itself is Avtex's usual build quality, feels extreamly robust and is thinner than its W163TR predicesor.  You get both a mains lead and 12v DC power lead.  It has good clear simplified instructions, straight to the point and easy to follow.  It has an easily removeable stand, when removed it reveals the standard holes for a VESA mount.  In my opinion though, the best feature of this new set is the PVR (personal video record) function.  If you plug in a USB storage memory stick into the Avtex's USB port and format it for use as PVR, depending on the size of the stick, it gives you the ability to record from digital freeview onto the stick for viewing at a later time.  You can set the item to record via the EPG, so it will record it automatically for you, or you can just hit record as your watching.  It will also do time shift tv, so you can pause live tv, go make a cup of tea and then resume playback.  So it acts very much like sky+, but the added bonus with this system is when I took the USB memory stick out of the tv and using our computer, I could view the recorded content of the USB memory stick via Windows Media Player (with the correct CODEC).  This set has Avtex's fantastic collect and return warranty and it makes for one excellent leisure tv.
