Glomex Discovery Automatic Static Satellite System
A keenly priced fully automatic satellite dome system, which boasts to be one of the smallest and lightest systems in its class. Weighing only 6kg, it is ideal for any sized van, without compromising your payload or roof space.
As with most new products, we never add them to our range until we've physically tested it. After sucessful field testing, we fit this system to one of our willing volunteer customers vehicles. The install is very easy, due to having only one cable from the control unit to the dome, so all you need to drill is a 8m hole through your roof. The dome is so light, it almost feels like you have an empty plastic dome, although taking the lid off the dome and looking at the insides reveals a well constructed mechanism, made of good quality components, mainly metals including alloys. The control box is very small and thus easy to find a home for. It requires a 12v DC feed from your leisure battery and has a remarkably small current draw of around 1 amp. The control box itself is easy to use, with a power switch and a satellite selector switch to change between Europes main three, Astra1 (19E), Astra2 (28E) and Hotbird (13E). You connect the coax lead from the dome to the 'f' connector inside the control box and then connect the control box to your receiver (not supplied) using the short patch lead. Turning on the control box, the system starts to search. Once the light on the control box turns solid green, its locked on to the selected satellite, job done! Of course we are more than willing to fit this for you, but the simplicity of the system does make it very suitable for D.I.Y. install.
The control box has an SD card slot for future software updating... making it easy for updates to be applied. Dish physical size is 50 (wide) x 30 (tall) cm, with a minimum E.I.R.P. figure of 49db, which is good enough to receive BBC/ITV over most of the UK and Northern/Central France. Depending on where you travel, this system will not leave you without anything to watch in Western Europe, picking up Astra2 North and South beams, Astra1 and Hotbird, which are all large footprints and strong transmissions. I purchased a Discovery from Shane in July and was delivered next day. Great service and loads of help with no pressure. Needed some adjustment but Glomex sent their engineer from Italy to my home and sorted within a very short time. Shane at Snellyvision supplied and fitted my Glomex Discovery Dome for me a month ago. The pre fitting service was second to none and I never felt any pressure to purchase even though I pestered Shane two or three time before finally taking the plunge. The fitting took place in his 'Field' in glorious sunshine and I drove back 3 hours a happy and contented customer. Been away two weekend since and the 'beast' is working perfectly. Finding the satellite took 25 seconds last weekend and the quality of the picture is brilliant. Shane and I are particularly impressed with the sturdyness and lack of plastic under the 'bubble'. let's not forget that Glomex have been in the satellite business with boats for years and their reputation in the maritime world seems to be excellent according to me 'sailor' friends. Go for it and enjoy the luxuary of not having to spend an age finding a signal in the rain and cold!! Shane is your man.
